Realistic Practice Questions to Help Your Child Prepare for the CCAT and Increase Their Chances of Scoring High
Welcome to your trusted practice resource for the 2026 CCAT Grade 3 Test (level 9)!
To maximize your child’s scores and help them get accepted to your desired Gifted program, we have designed an effective preparation process that has helped countless students succeed:
Try the following practice questions, which are taken from the complete practice package and closely mirror the actual test question types.
The sample questions are also available in PDF format, allowing you to download and print them for offline use.
In each row and/or column, the pictures change in the same way or follow the same rule.
Choose the answer that goes in the empty box in the matrix following the same rule.
The correct answer is 3.
The first two rows show the following relationship between the figures:
The number of elements (star points or polygon sides) increases by 1 while the number of small circles inside the main shape decreases by 1 when moving from left to right in the same row.
Therefore, the missing figure must be a hexagon (5 + 1 = 6 sides) with a single small circle inside.
These questions show three pictures that share a connection or a characteristic. Choose the answer that shares the same connection/characteristic from the answer choices.
The correct answer is 5.
All three original figures share the following features: All of them contain a number of similar shapes (but in a smaller size), corresponding to the number of sides of the original figure.
Moreover, two of these smaller shapes are always black. The only figure that fits this description is in option 5.
This question type shows a paper folded several times and then punched with holes. The answer choices contain unfolded papers with punched-in holes. You need to determine which of the answer choices is the final product of the unfolded punched-in paper.
The correct answer is 4.
Every question in our practice packages is carefully developed to help your child feel ready and confident on test day.
1. Built from Official Test Materials – We begin by studying official CCAT sample questions and available test materials to understand exactly how each question type works.
2. Designed to Match the Real Test – Every question is created to reflect the same format, style, and level of challenge students can expect on the actual assessment.
3. Written by Test Preparation Experts – Our team develops original questions that follow the same thinking skills measured by the test, with clear explanations that help children understand their mistakes and improve.
4. Independently Reviewed – Each question is checked by a second education or assessment specialist to ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency before it's published.
5. Updated Over Time – We regularly improve our materials using feedback from families and students, making the practice experience even better with each update.
By the time your child finishes practicing, they'll know what to expect and feel much more prepared for test day.
This question types provides two pairs of numbers with a certain mathematical connection and another number that shares that connection with one of the answer choices. Find the missing number for the third pair.
[27 → 3] [63 → 7] [90 → ?]
The correct answer is 10.
Look at the numbers in the first pair and try to figure out the rule they follow. How do we get from 21 to 3?
We see that if we divide the first number by 7 or subtract 18 from it, we get the second number:
27 ÷ 9 = 3 or 27 – 18 = 9
What happens to the second pair?
When we divide 63 by 9, or subtract 56 from it we get 7:
63 ÷ 9 = 7 or 63 – 56 = 7
The rule for the two pairs must be the same. The rule “divide the first number by 9 to get the second” works in both pairs, so in the next pair we should also divide by 9:
90 ÷ 9 = 10.
Therefore, 10 is the correct answer.
These questions provide a series of numbers that have a rule. Use the rule to determine which number will come next in the series.
4 4 5 7 7 8 10 10 11 ?
The correct answer is 13.
In this series, the pattern is +0, +1, +2, +0, +1, +2, …
(It is always important to examine a pattern carefully in order not to miss a small change in the pattern like the one that takes place here.)
The last three numbers in the series are 10, 10, and 11; 10 is larger than 10 by 0, and 11 is larger than 10 by 1. Therefore, the next number in the series should be larger than 11 by 2.
11 + 2 = 13
Therefore, 13 is the correct answer.
In these questions, you are given a set of equations. You must solve the equations to determine the number that goes instead of the question mark.
? – 4 = 3 × ♦
♦ = 18 ÷ 3
Correct answer: 22.
We need to find the number that, when 4 is subtracted from it, equals 3 times the value of ♦.
But first, we need to find the value of ♦.
This is what we know:
♦ = 18 ÷ 3
To find the value of ♦, we divide 18 by 3.
18 ÷ 3 = 6
So, ♦ = 6.
Now, we can use this value of ♦ in the equation:
? – 4 = 3 × 6
? – 4 = 18
To find the missing number, we use addition. Adding 4 to 18 will tell us what the question mark should be.
4 + 18 = 22
Therefore, the number that replaces the question mark is 22.
If your child finds some of the CCAT question types challenging, don’t worry. Many kids experience the same at this stage, when they’re just starting.
Encourage your child with small daily practices – they’ll build confidence as they improve.
Every bit of practice counts, and with time, your child will build stronger skills.
Looking for ways to support and improve your child’s abilities? Get our practice package with hundreds of CCAT practice questions designed to sharpen their skills and improve their test performance.
These questions provide a pair of words that go together in a certain way and a third word. Choose a word from the answer choices that goes together with the third word in the same way.
whisper → talk : stroll → ?
The correct answer is walk.
These show degrees of intensity for similar actions. A whisper is a quiet way to talk; a stroll is a gentle way to walk.
Choose the words from the answer choices that best complete the sentence.
The town celebrated its ________ over its ________ with fireworks and festivities.
Correct Answer: triumph .. challengers
The sentence describes a celebration, implying a victory, so “triumph” fits best. “Challengers” complements this as the opposing side. Other combinations like “failure .. supporters” don’t make sense in this context.
This question type provides three words that are alike in some way. Decide how they are alike, and choose the word that belongs in the same group as the first three words.
gram | ounce | ton
The correct answer is kilogram.
A gram, ounce, ton, and kilogram are all used to measure something’s weight.
