CCAT Grade 4 Nonverbal Battery Sample Questions

Figure Matrices Practice Question

In each row and/or column, the pictures change in the same way or follow the same rule.

Choose the answer that goes in the empty box in the matrix following the same rule.

CCAT Grade 4 Sample Question - Figure Matrices

Answer Choices for the Figure Matrices Sample Question

The correct answer is 1.

The first two rows show the following relationship between the figures: There are two main shapes in contact in different positions in all figures of the same row, and a black dot inside the non-circular shape. The shapes do not change, but their mutual position does.

The large white circle makes one-quarter a rotation clockwise with respect to the previous position, while the black dot is located in one of the three positions (top, middle, bottom) inside the non-circular shape.

Given this description, it is clear that the empty box must contain a diamond with a white circle on its left and a black dot in the middle.

Therefore, the correct answer is 1.

Figure Classification Practice Question

Figure Classification questions show three pictures that share a connection or a characteristic. Choose the answer that shares the same connection/characteristic from the answer choices.

Canadian Cognitive Abilities Test Grade 4 Sample Question - Figure Classification

Answer Choices for the Figure Classification Practice Question

The correct answer is 2.

All three original figures share two common features: all of them are squares divided into four quarters, and they contain three small circles and two small triangles each, distributed among the four quarters.

The only figure in the options that meets all these conditions is the 2nd one.

Paper Folding Practice Question

This question shows a paper folded several times and then punched with holes. The answer choices contain unfolded papers with punched-in holes. You need to determine which of the answer choices is the final product of the unfolded punched-in paper.

CCAT Test for Grade 4 Practice Question - Paper Folding

Answer Choices for the Paper Folding Question

The correct answer is 5.

  • First, the square was folded vertically in half from top to bottom.
  • Then, the remaining half-square was refolded horizontally in two quarters from left to right.
  • Then, one hole was punched at the bottom-right quarter figure that remained; it is part of a circle with one straight part. The shape’s orientation is diagonal, from top-left to bottom right.
  • Since the paper was folded in half twice, the holes were cut through four layers of paper.
  • Therefore, when the paper is unfolded, it will have four holes: 1 hole x 4 layers = 4 holes.
  • Since the paper was folded in half twice, all holes are mirrored both horizontally and vertically. This means the horizontal and vertical creases act as mirrors for the shapes. Thus, there will be four diagonal shapes – one in each figure part. The orientation will be inwards.

The only figure in the option that fits this description is the 5th one.

CCAT Grade 4 Quantitative Battery Sample Questions

Number Analogies Practice Question

Number Analogy questions provide two pairs of numbers with a certain mathematical connection and another number that shares that connection with one of the answer choices. Find the missing number for the third pair.

[2 → 10] [5 → 16] [8 → ?]

Correct Answer: 22

First, check if you can use simple addition to find the rules for the two pairs.

The first pair is +8, but +8 doesn’t work for the second pair.

This means we need to use multiplication and another math operation to reach the correct math connection between the pairs.

The number on the right side is obtained by multiplying the number on the left side by 2 and then adding 6 to the answer.

The numbers obtained are:

2 x 2 + 6 = 10
5 x 2 + 6 = 16
And 8 x 2 + 6 = 22.

Number Series Practice Question

This question provides a series of numbers that have a rule. Use the rule to determine which number will come next in the series.

4   9   7   13   10   17   ?

Correct Answer: 13

In the series, the next number is obtained by adding 3 to the numbers placed at odd positions and by adding 4 to the numbers placed at even positions.

The sequence is 4+3=7, 9+4=13, 7+3=10, 13+4=17 and 10+3= 13.

Number Puzzles Practice Question

In this question type, you are given a set of equations. You must solve the equations to determine the number that goes instead of the question mark.

72 ÷ ◊ + ? = 16

6 × ◊ − 8 = 40

Correct answer: 7

First, find ◊.

6 × ◊ − 8 = 40

Add 8:

6 × ◊ = 48

Divide by 6:

◊ = 8

Now use 8 in the second equation:

72 ÷ 8 + ? = 16

9 + ? = 16

16 – 9 = 8

So:

? = 7

If your child finds some of the CCAT question types challenging, don’t worry. Many kids experience the same at this stage, when they’re just starting.

Encourage your child with small daily practices – they’ll build confidence as they improve.

Every bit of practice counts, and with time, your child will build stronger skills.
