In each row and/or column, the pictures change in the same way or follow the same rule.
Choose the answer that goes in the empty box in the matrix following the same rule.
The correct answer is C.
The shape on the right side is obtained using the following rules:
• The symbols in the middle of the side of the shape get mirrored on the opposite side.
• The symbols at the corners are duplicated in the diagonal corner.
Image C is the only figure that matches the pattern, therefore, it is the correct answer.

The correct answer is D.
All three figures in this question contain a bigger outer shape with a smaller shape inside.
The number of sides of the outer shape is always equal to the number of sides of the inner shape.
Only option D meets the given criteria. Thus, this is the correct answer.
This question shows a paper folded several times and then punched with holes. The answer choices contain unfolded papers with punched-in holes. You need to determine which of the answer choices is the final product of the unfolded punched-in paper.
The correct answer is 2.
Nonverbal items often feel challenging the first time, especially with a timer running. With steady practice, though, your child can learn the common patterns and handle them with ease.
As your child practices, confidence grows, and these problems start to feel routine.
Our full practice package includes 140+ nonverbal CCAT questions to build speed, sharpen reasoning, and lift scores.
Help your child prepare with a complete practice package designed to maximize their performance on the CCAT Grade 5 test.
This question type provides two pairs of numbers with a certain mathematical connection and another number that shares that connection with one of the answer choices. Find the missing number for the third pair.
[12→ 6] [21 → 9] [45 → ?]
The correct answer is 17.
Look for the pattern in the first series of numbers. We get from 12 to 6 by dividing by 3 and then adding 2 [÷3 + 2]. Indeed, 12 ÷ 3 = 4 + 2 = 6.
Likewise, we get from 21 to 9 by dividing by 3 and then adding 2 [÷3 + 2]. Indeed, 21 ÷ 3 = 7 + 2 = 9.
The next series of numbers should follow the same pattern, meaning that the rule between 45 and ? should be [÷3 + 2] as well: 45 ÷ 3 = 5 + 2 = 17, meaning that the correct answer will be 17.
This question type provides a series of numbers that have a rule. Use the rule to determine which number will come next in the series.
2 12 6 36 18 108 54 ?
Correct Answer: 324
In the series, the number is obtained by multiplying the previous number by 6 and dividing the previous number by 2 alternatively.
The sequence is 2*6=12, 12/2=6, 6*6=36, 36/2=18, 18*6=108, 108/2=54 and 54*6=324.
In each question, you are a set of equations. You must solve the equations to determine the number that goes instead of the question mark.
? = 50 – ◆
◆ = 2 × ○
○ = 5 × 3
Correct Answer: 20
Step 1: Solve for ○ using the third equation.
○ = 5 × 3
○ = 15
Step 2: Substitute the value of ○ into the second equation.
◆ = 2 × 15
◆ = 30
Step 3: Substitute the value of ◆ into the first equation.
? = 50 – 30
? = 20
Therefore, the correct answer is 20.

This question provides a pair of words that go together in a certain way and a third word. Choose a word from the answer choices that goes together with the third word in the same way.
prevent → before : solution →
The correct answer is “after.”
One takes steps to prevent something before it happens. One has to choose or plan a solution after something has happened.
In this case, the first word (an abstract noun) is paired with an appropriate time period (the second word).
Choose the word or words from the answer choices that best complete the sentence.
Penguins are well _____ for surviving in cold climates, as shown by their _____ bodies and dense layers of feathers.
Correct Answer: adapted .. streamlined
“Well adapted” means having features that help an animal survive in its environment.
Penguins have streamlined (smooth, tapered) bodies that let them glide through water and conserve heat, and they have dense feathers for insulation.
The other choices don’t fit the meaning:
“unprotected” contradicts dense feathers; “awkward” is the opposite of streamlined; “fragile..powerful” conflicts; and “swift..heavy” don’t explain survival in cold climates.
This question type provides three words that are alike in some way. Decide how they are alike, and choose the word that belongs in the same group as the first three words.
biology | zoology | psychology
Correct Answer: botany
Biology, zoology, and psychology are scientific fields that study living things or their behavior. Among the choices, botany is also a science (the study of plants).
